a glance Behind the curtain At Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
Posted on September 12, 2013 at 11:09 am
With the announcement for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows dropping a short while back, complete with a teaser trailer, it’s time to get people’s interest level up. What better strategy to do this than releasing some actual in-game footage of what consumers can expect? In a worldwide where vociferous gamers will use any platform essential to voice their opinions, such pre-release content will make or break a game. With regards to the imminent Ninja Turtles game, while the backstage trailer, one who features rapper/producer Just Blaze discussing his contributions to the sport-a song-and his love for the franchise, while footage of the sport runs within the background.
This is all fine and good if you’re looking to attract the fashionable crowd, but developers appear to forget that the TMNT series dates back to the early 80s, and its first rendition was a black and white comic that featured more adult-themed adventures of our favourite bipedal reptiles.
Of course, that was long, way back, and the child-friendly transformation of the Turtles is the version most are knowledgeable about. While footage from the approaching Out of the Shadows doesn’t completely get rid of the family-friendliness, it does suggest something of a mature option to the band of ninjas. The sport should be presented inside the third-person brawler format, which still has the God of War series as its high water mark. The recent Ninja Turtles game doesn’t seem to have anything that violent in it, however the fighting does look less like a cartoon and more gritty, to make use of a term made favored by Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.
The Teen rating helps support this lean towards a more mature TMNT crew.
The backstage footage is the latest content to hit the tubes, however, last week, individual character trailers for every of the four-Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael-launched and that they give an improved examine what fans can expect. First up, the Just Blaze video. I can’t but wonder whether this “true fan” has seen the unique TMNT comics:
To me, the nature trailers give us a more robust idea of where the sport is headed, starting with Leonardo:
Donatello:
Raphael:
And Michelangelo:
The character trailers has been showing up since April, with Michelangelo’s being the primary to launch. As for the sport itself, it is going to be at the shelves on August 28th.

Kyrie Irving To Grace The quilt Of NBA Live 14…Hopefully
Posted on September 11, 2013 at 12:55 pm
EA Sports is giving its embattled NBA franchise another go, and has announced that Cleveland Cavaliers star point guard Kyrie Irving might be its cover athlete.[Exerpt]
“We couldn’t imagine an improved cover athlete for our game than the dynamic, explosive Kyrie Irving,” said Daryl Holt, VP and GM of basketball for EA Sports. “Kyrie is among the best ball handlers within the league, and with our next-generation technology we will arm players having the ability to replicate his impressive on-court feats, in addition to the fantastic signature styles and talents of different pros in NBA Live 14.”
The “hopefully” on this story headline, needless to say, refers to EA’s recent difficulties releasing its basketball titles. With both NBA Elite 11 and NBA Live 13 cancelled, the corporate hasn’t successfully launched a hoops game since October of 2009 when NBA Live 10 came out.
Our Take:
Kyrie Irving is a smart choice for the quilt of NBA Live 14. While he doesn’t have the global recognition of rival NBA 2K14’s Lebron James, basketball fans do know him as probably the most sports rising young talents. And let’s accept it: there is no topping Lebron. The selection of Kyrie is additionally perhaps symbolic. Just because the Cavaliers try to rebuild from the aftermath of Lebron’s high profile departure, NBA Live is making an attempt to revive this once great franchise after many years within the development wilderness. Regardless of who’s at the cover, just shipping a basketball game of any kind this year could be a win for EA.

Posted on September 11, 2013 at 6:48 am
There comes a time within the marketing of each game when a publisher must target a definite form of gamer. Whether the sport is story-heavy or specializes in extremely strategical gameplay, the selling teams for major publishers must prepare at the least one trailer emphasizing all the brutal action and explosions contained throughout the game.
Today, 2K Games released that trailer for the imminent The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. Type of.
The trailer does feature a number of gunfire, explosions, and death. However, it does so within the service of a parody. Titled “#YOLO,” the trailer features the primary character of The Bureau throwing his squad mates recklessly into battle. The pc-controlled characters dutifully obey, running straight into alien blaster fire while screaming, “YOLO.” In a ham-handed way, the video is supposed to spotlight the sport feature of permanent death for player squad mates.
2K has also recently released a developer diary specializing in the tale within the Bureau. Whether you thought the YOLO trailer was funny or a travesty, the dev diary can function a more laid-back, informative palate cleanser:

Killzone: Mercenary Will Retain The Series’ Strong Multiplayer
Posted on September 10, 2013 at 9:40 am
Killzone’s multiplayer has always been pretty solid. It seems like the series will retain that pedigree with its second foray into handhelds.
In a brand new video released today, Guerrilla Cambridge looks in any respect the recent features they’re bringing to the multiplayer experience in Mercenary. The team confirmed that players can carry their character between single player and multiplayer modes. This may allow players to rank up and earn new weapons in multiplayer by playing the campaign.
The team said also taking balance very seriously. Every weapon has something that may counter it. A type of countermeasures seems to be a shield. It’s a little bit boring so maybe there’s something more interesting within the final game.
Killzone: Mercenary launches on September 10 exclusively for the PlayStation Vita.

Kinect Sports Rivals Isn’t any Longer An Xbox One Launch Title
Posted on September 10, 2013 at 8:05 am
The Xbox One launch lineup continues to be a piece in progress, as evidenced by a brand new delay that may push Kinect Sports Rivals from day one into 2014.
The website Polygon broke the scoop, receiving official word from Microsoft that Kinect Sports Rivals was delayed and won’t available for launch. Some retailers (including Game Informer’s parent company Gamestop) have been selling bundles of Xbox One launch units packaged with Kinect Sports Rivals, so it’ll be interesting to look how those orders are filled.
The game, developed by Rare, might be shown on the upcoming Gamescom convention in Germany and should be playable on the show.
Our Take:
I’ll be honest; i am not exactly losing sleep over the delay of this game. However, I do think it is a loss for the Xbox One launch lineup. By including Kinect in every system, the corporate is largely forcing people to purchase a Kinect, and – in my mind – it can be a superb move to have as many titles available that utilize the peripheral as possible. Also, i’m intrigued by one of the crucial game’s new activities, especially wake racing.

Most Ouya Owners Aren’t Buying Games
Posted on September 9, 2013 at 2:51 pm
In a brand new interview, Ouya head Julie Uhrman revealed numbers that confirmed the reports that – thus far – Ouya owners aren’t inclined to pay for games.
In an interview with The Verge, Uhrman said that “Monetization on Ouya is so far better than we expected. It takes time to construct what traditional consoles have had decades to construct.”
However, the sales numbers she provided seemed fairly bleak. Based on Uhrman, only 27 percent of Ouya owners have paid for content, with most choosing to exploit the system without charge-to-play games, demos, and illegal NES and SNES emulators.
The games that Uhrman cited because the system’s most successful, TowerFall and Hidden in Plain Sight, have earned $21,000 and $4,381 respectively. This will have something to do with TowerFall creator Matt Thorson’s recent announcement that he is bringing the sport to PC.
Uhrman also talked of increased developer interest within the system. There are actually over 21,000 registered Ouya developers. To boot, she said the systems rate of upgrade from free to paid version (8 percent) is truly incredible within the free-to-play market.
Source: The Verge
Our Take
While Ms. Uhrman can spin the numbers any way she likes, the truth that your system’s breakout game (TowerFall) has only earned $21,000 is bad news. On the grounds that the sport sells for $14.99, that’s only around 1,400 paid downloads. Which, simply stated, is pretty pathetic for a game pretty much as good as TowerFall. Between PC, mobile platforms, and next-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony in an effort to be even more indie-friendly, small developers have loads of options. If Ouya desires to succeed, it is going to should convince the industry that it is a place where companies could make money.

Learn More About Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag From Its Comic-Con Panel
Posted on September 9, 2013 at 6:14 am
After many felt disappointed by Assassin’s Creed III, many gamers are starting to warm as much as the subsequent title within the franchise. It doesn’t hurt that the gameplay shown up to now is leagues above and beyond anything we ever saw within the previous game. Gameplay isn’t everything, needless to say, and a few gamers can be curious regarding the story this time around.
To help with that, Ubisoft hosted a comic book-Con panel earlier this month with the 3 those who are bringing Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag to life – Darby McDevitt, Matt Ryan and Todd McFarlane. Within the below video, McDevitt talks about bringing Edward Kenway to life while Ryan and McFarlane discuss the approaching comics and toys in keeping with the franchise.
Ubisoft’s Comic-Con panel is a superb reminder that Assassin’s Creed and other AAA franchise find it irresistible are increasingly counting on products and merchandise outside of the sport to stay viable. Thankfully, we’re still on the point where these extra products only serve to expand the lore without taking anything from the sport. In fact, that could all change as publishers create more products which are required to realize the entire experience, like Disney’s Infinity or Activision’s Skylanders. We will only hope that AAA game development doesn’t go down that route.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will set sail on October 29 for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U. The Xbox One and PS4 versions will launch alongside those respective consoles, and the computer version will launch sometime in November.

Acclaimed Author Neil Gaiman Announces First Game Project
Posted on September 8, 2013 at 9:42 am
The Neverwhere writer is creating Wayward Manor, a macabre puzzle/adventure game developed in partnership with the indie studio The Odd Gentlemen.
The author, who’s favorite in comic and fantasy circles for lots books including Neverwhere, American Gods, and the classic comic book series Sandman, was a lifelong gamer and is now trying his hand at making them. Inspired by early 20th century farces like Arsenic and Old Lace, Gaimen envisions Wayward Manor – which casts the player as a ghost looking to scare people out of an old mansion – as a hybrid of the puzzle and adventure genres.
We’ll leave it to Neil himself to offer you the pitch inside the video below. While the sport isn’t doing a Kickstarter, they’re raising money through tiered pre-orders that include perks (essentially a Kickstarter not on Kickstarter). One of many pre-order bonuses is dinner with Gaiman himself, for under $10,000 (though you need to provide your personal travel). Whadda guy.
Our Take
While Neil Gaimen seriously isn’t a game developer by trade, he’s certainly landed with an efficient partner: The Odd Gentlemen, who created the great The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, among other games. Their offbeat, old-fashioned visual vibe perfectly suits Gaiman, and their skill as a developer will never be in question. Their expertise coupled with Gaiman’s writing generally is a superb combination.
