Report: Atlus Parent Index Corporation To start Selling Operations Next Week
Posted on August 6, 2013 at 10:39 am
Update: Bloomberg has provided Game Informer with an instantaneous translation of its story on Atlus parent Index Corporation’s upcoming operations sale.
The facts which have emerged indicate that Index’s market value has plummeted from 6.8 billion yen ($67.7 million) at the day before the fraud probe was initiated to approximately 1.08 billion yen ($10.8 million). The corporate is looking for 15 billion in revenue from the sale. As we mentioned earlier, the company’s stock might be delisted. We’ve got also learned that company chairperson Masami Ochiai and CEO Yoshimi Ochiai will resign from their posts an afternoon before this happens.
Atlus has not issued an announcement right now.
Original Story:
News has are available from Bloomberg’s Japanese outfit that things have gone from bad to worse for Atlus parent Index Corporation. The corporate will begin selling off its operations next week.
This follows a statement on the end of June that Index had filed for “rehabilitation” (a sort of bankruptcy) thanks to debt amounting to 24.5 billion yen ($249 million). The bankruptcy came at the heels of an investigation for “round tripping,” a mechanism where sales numbers are inflated to defraud investors.
Index shall be delisted from JASDAQ on July 28, and the corporate hopes to head quickly before its assets are devalued. The whole matter may be wrapped up as early as September. We’ve got reached out to Atlus for comment.

Our Take
When I wrote further analysis about this example within the June 29, 2013 weekly recap, I identified a lot of possible scenarios. One of the best case, during which Index recovers, is off the table.
This leaves three others, and until we all know for certain if Atlus’ games were occupied with the round tripping fraud, it’s hard to understand what is going to happen. My hope is that whomever picks up the publisher and its stable of excellent RPGs recognizes the corporate for its successes.
Atlus has only been picking up steam until now few years, and its certainly found a rhythm on handheld devices. While i might wish to see Persona 5 on a house console, immediately I’m more curious about getting it in any respect.

EA’s E3 Press Conference Finally Gets The Abridged Treatment
Posted on August 6, 2013 at 9:42 am
E3 2013 feels like memory now. It’s hard to even remember what happened. Due to the fine folks at VideoGamer, we will no less than remember what happened at EA’s press conference.
The latest, and final, E3 abridged video captures just how boring EA’s E3 presence was. Beyond Mirror’s Edge 2 and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, everything else was business as usual. Spending over 20 minutes on EA Sports didn’t help matters either. Still, the oldsters at VideoGamer did what they may with the fabric, and the result is pretty good.
It’s been your time since E3 2013, but you will be a kind of individuals who want to be fashionably late to the gaming news cycle. If so, check up on these previous abridged videos for Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and Ubisoft.

New Splinter Cell Trailer Teases Story Prologue
Posted on August 5, 2013 at 10:12 am
Though Ubisoft now seems concentrating on its next-generation console launch titles Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, the publisher still has one last current-generation to follow through with. Splinter Cell: Blacklist will hit stores on August 20, marking the tip of both summer and Ubisoft’s AAA offerings for the 7th console generation (unless South Park counts).
A trailer blitz is now underway for Blacklist, with new gameplay videos and teasers hitting the net weekly. This week’s new trailer shows off a little the story’s prologue, leading as much as a potentially deadly cliffhanger. It kind of feels Sam Fisher will once more ought to don his Splinter Cell outfit and goggles, this time to fight terrorists for the America. Nevermind the truth that he’s too old for this shit.
The trailer also has some info concerning the game’s GameStop-exclusive pre-order content. It’s a few suits and weapons; a special goggle color; and a co-op mission. It may well all be seen on the end of the trailer:

Put A Zombie For your Lawn (Or In your house) For Charity
Posted on August 5, 2013 at 6:06 am
Step into PopCap’s Plants Vs. Zombies Comic-Con booth, and also you might think the zombie invasion has already begun. The gap is full of jumbo Munny figures, each custom painted and sculpted to check the studio’s popular franchise. If one in all them catches your fancy, you are in luck. The figures could be auctioned off next week to elevate money for the Child’s Play charity.
The figures were created by loads of artists, including some from DICE, BioWare, and Double Fine. A lot of them stay with reference to the source material, which includes an uncannily accurate version of Crazy Dave, while others take looser interpretations of the game’s fiction. Take that poor sucker above, with the sunflower bursting from his skull. It will possibly not be canonical, but it’s pretty great looking.
For additional information at the auction, and to peer a gallery of each of the Munny figurines, visit popcap.com/SDCC2013. The auction begins July 22.

Namco High Announced At San Diego International Comic Con
Posted on August 4, 2013 at 7:37 am
Gamers, otaku, nerds, and general fanatics have all gathered in solidarity for the mecca of geekdom that’s San Diego Comic Con, which started on Thursday and should continue in to Sunday. One of many panels, musicians, cosplayers, and other attractions that attract such a lot of fans yearly, an engaging proposition has risen from Namco Bandai; the corporate, together with Andrew Hussie, can be making a dating sim.
For people who are unfamiliar with the term, a dating sim refers to a kind of visual novel where the goal of gameplay is usually to pursue a romantic relationship with a designated character. Players can usually select from multiple characters to court, and games range from a number of scenarios and maturity ratings. A majority of these games are incredibly popular in Japan.
Namco Bandai, the publishers of such game franchises because the Tales of…, Tekken, and Soulcaliber series, announced on Monday in an announcement shown at Comic Con that they might be making a dating sim called “Namco High” with the aid of Andrew Hussie, the mastermind behind the ingenious, incredibly popular web comic, “Homestuck.”
The game would be a mash-up of multiple Namco Bandai universes, and could occur in a “high school only for online game characters.” The dating sim would be browser-based, taking into account “cross-platform enjoyment… despite device.” What Pumpkin studios and ShiftyLook also are enthusiastic about the game’s process, and appear desperate to be part of its creation. George Rohac, director of commercial development at What Pumpkin Studios, was quoted as saying, “We are highly anticipating its release.”
Speaking at the addition of Andrew Hussie to the team, Rob Pereyda, ShiftyLook’s producer and editor-in-chief said, “There isn’t any creator with more of a colourful originality at present than Andrew Hussie… We’re beyond excited to look where he’s taking these characters and the original relationships so as to literally unfold between them.” Fans of Homestuck are surely desirous to see what Hussie will do with these characters, to boot, especially given the creator’s track record with character deaths.
“Namco High” might be released in 2013 before the vacation season begins on ShiftyLook.com.

Ubisoft Confirms That Watch Dogs Companion App Doesn’t Require Retail Game
Posted on August 3, 2013 at 6:49 am
During its first quarter earnings call, Ubisoft confirmed that Watch Dogs’ companion app won’t require that players own the sport on consoles or PC. It is a shift in how companion apps had been handled previously.
Now, anyone concerned about the Watch Dogs experience just on a mobile device can try this without owning a whole version of the title. This broadens the chance for external influences on Aiden’s adventure, both in support of players and as foils for the entire game’s players.
For more at the companion app, inspect this preview.
Our Take
The appeal of the connected Watch Dogs experience and the way it would influence the sport just skyrocketed. I expect there probably can be a subset of players that gravitate to this experience before or in place of the retail version. There are many of games popping out this autumn (let alone the recent consoles), and this can hook players into the Watch Dogs world with out a huge investment.

iOS’ Deus Ex: The autumn Patched To Run on Jailbroken iPhones
Posted on August 2, 2013 at 12:18 pm
Whatever your position on mobile device/touchscreen “serious” gaming, the type that goes beyond the arcade-like Angry Birds/Candy Crush Sagas of the sector, there isn’t any denying these devices are becoming a viable destination for games with a more serious tone and more complicated control schemes. With that during mind, the moderate level of interest surrounding Square Enix’s Deus Ex: The autumn, a Triple A title that’s normally found at the PS3/Xbox 360/PC Game environment, is warranted.
Deus Ex: The autumn is an ambitious title, as a minimum regarding mobile gaming, offering a degree of depth not normally present in less-serious mobile gaming environment. Because, however, there’s a tendency inside the online game publishing community to regard everything involving jailbreaking devices with piracy, and so, when the sport was first released, iPhone owners who purchased the sport and tried to play it on a jailbroken iPhone-a totally legal activity-they were greeted with the next screen:
Needless to claim, one of these programming decision was met with much scorn. The response, which featured an enormous Reddit contingent, was so loud, it caused Square Enix to reply:
“We haven’t been clear in our communication earlier this week after we launched Deus Ex: The autumn. We didn’t state clearly that the sport wouldn’t support jailbroken devices and so we are going to be switching this off via an update, in order that all of the supported iOS devices can be capable of play the sport within the near future.”
“We feel it’s the appropriate thing to do on this situation and apologise for any inconvenience this will have caused. No customer ought to be out of pocket after we weren’t clear from the beginning, so we’ll get the sport updated once possible in order that everyone who desires to play Deus Ex: The autumn can do whether their device is jailbroken or not. Once this update is live we can communicate this via the Eidos Montreal Community channels.”
To their credit, Square Enix was true to their word and quickly issued an update, that’s available for download. The update notes include the next:
– Restriction on weapon firing which affected jailbroken devices were removed;
– Improved enemy AI reaction and combat behaviour;
– Increased XP rewards for completing objectives;
– Increased the quantity of credits gained as rewards, around the game;
– Improved damage and accuracy stats for the Combat Rifle;
– Increased accuracy of Shotguns for better mid-range effectiveness;
– Reduced some weapon costs (including high-end Plasma Rifles and Rocket Launchers).
It has to be noted the developers are planning to release an Android version of Deus Ex: The autumn, although, no date was discussed.

Ubisoft Hesitant To Touch upon Software Sales For Next Gen By reason of Wii U Experience
Posted on August 2, 2013 at 11:19 am
During the 1st quarter 2014 earnings call, Ubisoft was asked about software attach rates for the following generation of consoles. The solution about PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was in response to learning a hard lesson.
“We gave you a touch upon Wii U last year and got it wrong,” an Ubisoft representative admitted. Ubisoft have been vocal about its demand Nintendo to lower console prices and prime purchases with more titles.
A casualty of the Wii U’s flagging performance was the timed exclusivity of Rayman Legends. It can now be a simultaneous multiplatform release arriving on September 3, 2013.
Our Take
Ubisoft went all-in at the Wii U and suffered for it. ZombiU, which received quite a number critical response (including some amazing reviews), sold poorly. It didn’t break even and a sequel won’t be coming. The tragedy is that ZombiU makes highly intelligent use of the Wii U gamepad that needs to were a guiding light for other developers.
Ubisoft’s outspoken nature concerning the Wii U is worth noticing, since it is just an informal hint about conversations which are little question happening behind closed doors between the publisher and Nintendo.
