Does it sound like a dream come true to work at GameStop? In that case, the approaching launch of the Xbox One and PS4 can have just given you the excuse you should join their team.
GameStop announced today that it plans to rent 17,000 seasonal workers this holiday season in preparation for the Xbox and PS4 launches. Next gen consoles aren’t the best reason GameStop is hiring, however, because it also needs some extra help to house what it expects may be a hectic holiday season.
“Providing our customers a very good experience is of paramount importance in terms of defining who GameStop is as a retailer and delivering the entire value we provide our customers,” said Mike Buskey, Senior Vice chairman of Human Resources at GameStop. “The holiday season is our busiest time of the year, accounting for about 40% of our annual revenue. As we near the 2013 holiday season, and the approaching launches of the PS4 and Xbox One consoles, it’s critical that we attract and retain positive-talent both in our stores in addition to in our consumer electronics refurbishment and distribution centers.”
As you can find above, GameStop isn’t just hiring employees for its retail locations. Actually, it might be impossible to cram 17,000 new employees into its shrinking choice of retail locations. Many of the new hires will instead be assigned to GameStop’s refurbishment operation center or one in all its two distribution warehouses. For the previous, GameStop is seeking technicians to assist refurbish used consoles which can then be resold at its retail locations. For the latter, they’re searching for warehouse workers to assist ship out the entire orders GameStop’s online presence will undoubtedly receive this holiday season.
So, is there any benefit to working with GameStop? Like with most retail locations, the principle benefit is available in the shape of discounts – a fifteen percent discount to be exact. Folks that work as Game Advisors at GameStop’s retail locations even have the power to “rent” new games and take them home for just a few days.
While GameStop may say that it’s only hiring seasonal employees, there’s always the danger that it is able to develop into a career for a few of the new hires. It does happen, but you simply need to be hardworking and, as a rule, a bit lucky.
