Rambo: The Game On-Rails FPS Announced

Posted on July 20, 2013 at 12:34 pm

Not because the 80s have gamers been ready to step into the shoes of the enduring John Rambo. Even then, the 1985 Commodore 64 game Rambo and Rambo for the NES didn’t inspire a similar form of reverence Sylvester Stallone‘s movie character did. Now, with decades of the game industry full of the kind of stealth and over-the-top shooter experiences that appear perfect for the Rambo character, one publisher is finally taking a possibility at the franchise.

Reef Entertainment this week released a primary look trailer for the imminent Rambo: The Online game . It sort of feels the sport would be a “fixed perspective” first-person shooter, meaning it will become on rails kind of like arcade games similar to The home of the Dead or Area 51. Unfortunately, the visuals appear to match the archaic game design:

The game is predicated at the first three Rambo movies – First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part II, and Rambo III. Reef promises “shoot-outs, stealth killings, demolition, knife-play, and more,” though the trailer doesn’t adequately show how these will fit into gameplay. No matter its quality, Rambo: The Online game would be headed to both consoles and PC sometime this winter.

DuckTales Remastered Comes Out August 13

Posted on July 19, 2013 at 9:04 am

Classic NES platformer DuckTales is being remade for a trendy audience this year by the 2D platforming masters at WayForward. It was only given a vague Summer 2013 launch date when it was announced at PAX East earlier this year, but now we all know the sport is coming next month.

Capcom announced today that DuckTales Remastered would be hitting the PS3, Wii U and PC on August 13. Unfortunately, the sport won’t be out on Xbox 360 until 9/11. The delay may very well be via Xbox Live Arcade’s slots being filled all throughout August as a result of Summer of Arcade.

DuckTales Remastered may be available on all platforms for $14.99. In case you feel like spending $5 more and own a PS3, you may get the PS3 exclusive retail edition of the title that includes a download code and a collector pin for $19.99. The retail edition will launch a little in a while August 20.

To coincide with the announcement of the game’s release, Capcom has released a brand new video cleverly titled “Wayforward Duckumentaries” that goes into how the developers updated the NES classic for contemporary hardware. It also covers how Wayforward nailed the “authentic Disney look and feel” for the sport. Spoilers: They contracted some of the original artists from the DuckTales TV series.

NHL 14 Brings Back Old Time Hockey With NHL 94 Mode

Posted on July 19, 2013 at 6:34 am

To celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the seminal NHL 94, this year’s hockey title is including a unique mode honoring that game. Blue ice and rough-and-tough hockey included.

The NHL 94 Anniversary mode within NHL 14 permits you to play with current players in a setting that hearkens back to a time when gameplay was simpler and hockey was tougher. The mode uses a simplified, classic control scheme, retro presentation (including the blue ice, star icons, throwback unis, and organ music), and no penalties.

NHL 14 comes out September 10 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Our Take
NHL 94 was a game that made non-hockey fans fall in love with the game, or at the least the online game sport. Will probably be interesting to look what percentage fans just like the proven fact that the mode uses current NHL 14 gameplay rather than offering up the classic game fully intact. Perhaps there have been player licensing issues that prevented this.

Elder Scrolls Online, Evil Within, More Coming To QuakeCon 2013

Posted on July 18, 2013 at 7:49 am

Bethesda has released more information about its annual QuakeCon event, which begins August 1. Attendees can see presentations of upcoming games including The Elders Scrolls Online, Wolfenstein: The hot Order, and The Evil Within.

In addition to those presentations, there’ll even be a Dishonored panel featuring Raphael Colantonio, Ricardo Bare, and Seth Shain. They’re bringing along the third add-on pack for Dishonored, the Brigmore Witches DLC. That pack, along with The Elders Scrolls Online, Wolfenstein: The recent Order, and The Evil Within will all be playable on the show.

The show, that is being held from August 1-4, can be host to the large QuakeCon Bring Your individual Computer LAN party. The festival begins at 9 a.m. on August 1 and runs through noon on August 4.

Bethesda also announced the list of exhibitors and sponsors who could have a QuakeCon presence:

  • ADATA
  • BAWLS Guarana
  • Cooler Master
  • CPU Magazine
  • DELL/Alienware
  • Ecomaster (Enermax & LEPA)
  • FRAGApparel
  • Gigabyte
  • Glitch Gear
  • GX-Gaming
  • IN WIN
  • Micro Center
  • MineCraftPVP
  • Minecraft EDU
  • Modders Inc.
  • NVIDIA
  • UCC
  • Ventrilo

Our Take

Id’s footprint at the contemporary gaming landscape can be smaller than it was once, but its QuakeCon festival remains the best LAN events around. Despite the fact that id doesn’t have anything to point out at its own party, Bethesda is doing its best to maintain the non-LAN portions of the show relevant.

Deus Ex: The autumn Out For iPhone, iPad

Posted on July 18, 2013 at 7:19 am

Deus Ex: The autumn is officially out for iOS platforms. The sport is an offshoot of the 2011 game Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It’s also probably the most ambitious mobile games yet released, trying to bring the experience of a console stealth/shooter to the small screen.

Rather than follow Human Revolution protagonist Adam Jensen, the sport follows a British mercenary named Ben Saxon as he investigates a world drug conspiracy. Though the controls for the sport were adapted for a splash screen, The autumn seems to be just almost like its PC and console predecessors.

The Fall sells for $6.99/£4.99/€5.99 in Apple’s App Store. The sport will run on iPhone 4S and newer iPhones, 3rd-generation iPads and newer iPads, and at the latest generation of iPod Touch devices.

As seen within the launch trailer below, the graphics within the Fall don’t come near those of the great-looking Human Revolution. However, much of the gameplay Deus Ex fans love does appear to have made it into the mobile game.

BioWare Releases SWTOR Update, Celebrates KOTOR’s 10th Anniversary

Posted on July 17, 2013 at 1:10 pm

Developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts released update 2.2.2 for Star Wars: The Old Republic today. The update features Nightmare Mode Operation: Legions of Scum and Villainy, the second one of 2 parts to SWTOR’s Operation Nightmare.

Scum and Villainy primarily faces players against the Hutt cartel. In-game rewards included with the update are a brand new Titan 6 Containment mode and the elite Kell Dragon gear set.

The update falls ahead of the 10th anniversary of BioWare’s 2003 game, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. To celebrate this milestone, EA and BioWare are giving the community some goodies next week. SWTOR players should purchase the title “Revan’s Heir” from the cartel marketplace for 10 cartel coins on July 15. Cartel coins can also be given away throughout that day at the official SWTOR Facebook page. Lastly, BioWare creative director James Ohlen will release a blog post on July 15 that discusses KOTOR and its influence at the Old Republic.

Rovio to Release Hidden-Object/Puzzle Game July 11

Posted on July 17, 2013 at 7:47 am

Rovio, the developer behind the Angry Birds series, today announced that it’ll publish a game called Tiny thief on Thursday, July 11. The sport, the second one to come back out under the publisher’s ‘Rovio Stars’ label, should be available for both iOS and Android.

Rovio Stars is Rovio’s initiative to publish third-party titles on mobile platforms. It’s a tacit acknowledgement that a single mobile developer cannot stay innovative enough on its own to dominate mobile gaming, and that the recognition of the Angry Birds franchise might not last forever. The 1st game released under the label was Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage.

In contrast to Icebreaker’s physics-based action gameplay, Tiny Thief is a more laid-back hidden object and puzzle-solving game. The sport is decided in a medieval world crammed with offbeat characters and humorous events. The effect, as seen within the trailer below, is a game that seems kind of like classic point-and-click adventure games equivalent to Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island, which might seem an ideal fit for touch-based mobile gaming.

Ubisoft Shows Off Pirate Gameplay In Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Posted on July 16, 2013 at 7:25 am

Assassin’s Creed III introduced plenty of elements to the franchise that mostly garnered a powerful “meh” from gamers, but most can agree that its introduction of ship battles was definitely the highlight. That enthusiasm for naval combat could have been the explanation Ubisoft turned to pirates during this year’s title.

Today, Ubisoft released a brand new trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag that shows off the game’s pirate gameplay and naval combat. Like several good pirate, players will spend lots of their free time hunting treasure that they find on maps. A few of the treasure which you find may also help you upgrade your ship to tackle the tougher naval challenges.

Some people will claim that they’re becoming bored with Assassin’s Creed, and that’s a legitimate argument. Others argue that pirate games are passé, but that one’s a bit of harder to defend. It’s rare that we get a pirate game, not to mention an outstanding one; and Assassin’s Creed IV is calling to be a very good pirate game.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will launch on October 29 for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U. It’ll even be a launch title for the Xbox One and PS4.

Black Ops II’s Vengeance DLC Coming To PC, PS3 In August

Posted on July 15, 2013 at 2:22 pm

Activision has revealed when PC and PS3 players can access the Vengeance DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Those players can investigate cross-check the download’s four multiplayer maps and new Zombies mode in August.

More specifically, the content is coming to these platforms on August 1 for $14.99. Here is a quick recap of the multiplayer maps, straight from Activision:

    • Cove: The stage is decided for all-out conflict in this small, forgotten island in the course of the Indian Ocean, with players battling it out amongst the wreckage of a jet that crash-landed during a smuggling operation gone wrong.

  • Detour: A destroyed suspension bridge high above an East Coast waterway, jam-packed with scattered vehicles, exposed iron, and collapsed pavement where the pinnacle-to-head action will play out on multiple levels.

  • Rush: Prepare for instant, close-quarters engagements during this paintball course turned full-combat arena, giving players new opportunities and challenges to take advantage of the quilt to their advantage.

  • Uplink:  In this re-imagined adaptation of the fan-favorite multiplayer map “Summit” from the unique Call of Duty: Black Ops, players clash deep within the rain-soaked jungles of Myanmar, high atop a hi-tech mountain facility.

The download also includes the hot Zombies chapter, Buried. Buried is about in an abandoned mining town, and includes the special Ray Gun Mark II. You will see a number of the zombie-slaying action for yourself inside the trailer below.

Amazon Is Sold Out Of PS4, Xbox One Launch Units

Posted on July 15, 2013 at 11:50 am

Just yesterday, GameStop announced that it had completely sold out of its initial allotment of PS4 units. Now another retailer has announced a similar.

Amazon announced today via its Games Facebook page that it has completely sold out of its initial allotment of PS4 and Xbox One launch units. Because the retailer notes, it only took them a month to sell throughout the launch unit preorders:

After a crazy and exciting month, we’ve sold through our initial allocations of PS4 and Xbox One. Thanks to all who’ve ordered and shared your opinions. We’ve got the everyday Editions for both consoles still available, but we can’t guarantee these at release. Please check back here as we’ll update you first if we receive further release day allocations.

What Amazon didn’t say is that it has sold out of its dearer launch day bundles in addition. The sell through rate of those bundle only further cements that the hype for next-gen consoles is incredibly high, and should remain so within the end of the year.

Amazon may well be sold out of both the PS4 and the Xbox One, but GameStop still has the Xbox Sooner or later One Edition available for preorder. There’s no make sure that will probably be available much longer, however, so that you better preorder now when you have your heart set on an Xbox One this holiday season.
