Ubisoft Confirms That Watch Dogs Companion App Doesn’t Require Retail Game
Posted on August 3, 2013 at 6:49 am
During its first quarter earnings call, Ubisoft confirmed that Watch Dogs’ companion app won’t require that players own the sport on consoles or PC. It is a shift in how companion apps had been handled previously.
Now, anyone concerned about the Watch Dogs experience just on a mobile device can try this without owning a whole version of the title. This broadens the chance for external influences on Aiden’s adventure, both in support of players and as foils for the entire game’s players.
For more at the companion app, inspect this preview.
Our Take
The appeal of the connected Watch Dogs experience and the way it would influence the sport just skyrocketed. I expect there probably can be a subset of players that gravitate to this experience before or in place of the retail version. There are many of games popping out this autumn (let alone the recent consoles), and this can hook players into the Watch Dogs world with out a huge investment.

iOS’ Deus Ex: The autumn Patched To Run on Jailbroken iPhones
Posted on August 2, 2013 at 12:18 pm
Whatever your position on mobile device/touchscreen “serious” gaming, the type that goes beyond the arcade-like Angry Birds/Candy Crush Sagas of the sector, there isn’t any denying these devices are becoming a viable destination for games with a more serious tone and more complicated control schemes. With that during mind, the moderate level of interest surrounding Square Enix’s Deus Ex: The autumn, a Triple A title that’s normally found at the PS3/Xbox 360/PC Game environment, is warranted.
Deus Ex: The autumn is an ambitious title, as a minimum regarding mobile gaming, offering a degree of depth not normally present in less-serious mobile gaming environment. Because, however, there’s a tendency inside the online game publishing community to regard everything involving jailbreaking devices with piracy, and so, when the sport was first released, iPhone owners who purchased the sport and tried to play it on a jailbroken iPhone-a totally legal activity-they were greeted with the next screen:
Needless to claim, one of these programming decision was met with much scorn. The response, which featured an enormous Reddit contingent, was so loud, it caused Square Enix to reply:
“We haven’t been clear in our communication earlier this week after we launched Deus Ex: The autumn. We didn’t state clearly that the sport wouldn’t support jailbroken devices and so we are going to be switching this off via an update, in order that all of the supported iOS devices can be capable of play the sport within the near future.”
“We feel it’s the appropriate thing to do on this situation and apologise for any inconvenience this will have caused. No customer ought to be out of pocket after we weren’t clear from the beginning, so we’ll get the sport updated once possible in order that everyone who desires to play Deus Ex: The autumn can do whether their device is jailbroken or not. Once this update is live we can communicate this via the Eidos Montreal Community channels.”
To their credit, Square Enix was true to their word and quickly issued an update, that’s available for download. The update notes include the next:
– Restriction on weapon firing which affected jailbroken devices were removed;
– Improved enemy AI reaction and combat behaviour;
– Increased XP rewards for completing objectives;
– Increased the quantity of credits gained as rewards, around the game;
– Improved damage and accuracy stats for the Combat Rifle;
– Increased accuracy of Shotguns for better mid-range effectiveness;
– Reduced some weapon costs (including high-end Plasma Rifles and Rocket Launchers).
It has to be noted the developers are planning to release an Android version of Deus Ex: The autumn, although, no date was discussed.

Ubisoft Hesitant To Touch upon Software Sales For Next Gen By reason of Wii U Experience
Posted on August 2, 2013 at 11:19 am
During the 1st quarter 2014 earnings call, Ubisoft was asked about software attach rates for the following generation of consoles. The solution about PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was in response to learning a hard lesson.
“We gave you a touch upon Wii U last year and got it wrong,” an Ubisoft representative admitted. Ubisoft have been vocal about its demand Nintendo to lower console prices and prime purchases with more titles.
A casualty of the Wii U’s flagging performance was the timed exclusivity of Rayman Legends. It can now be a simultaneous multiplatform release arriving on September 3, 2013.
Our Take
Ubisoft went all-in at the Wii U and suffered for it. ZombiU, which received quite a number critical response (including some amazing reviews), sold poorly. It didn’t break even and a sequel won’t be coming. The tragedy is that ZombiU makes highly intelligent use of the Wii U gamepad that needs to were a guiding light for other developers.
Ubisoft’s outspoken nature concerning the Wii U is worth noticing, since it is just an informal hint about conversations which are little question happening behind closed doors between the publisher and Nintendo.

Ubisoft Expects The Division On the End Of 2014, The Crew In Early 2014
Posted on August 1, 2013 at 11:03 am
One of Ubisoft’s biggest surprises at E3 this year was Tom Clancy’s The Division. Our readers are clamoring for more info about.
During the 1st quarter sales call today, Ubisoft disclosed that it expect The Division to reach during calendar year 2014, but not until the tip. This puts the title within the company’s 2014-15 fiscal year.
The open-world, online racer The Crew should arrive on the end of Ubisoft’s current fiscal year during early 2014. Additionally, the publisher told investors today to expect open world titles frequently, citing the processes it has in place to leverage multiple studios in creating titles.
Our Take
The timing of The Division should not be surprising, and albeit, it wouldn’t shock me to determine it bumped to 2015. After I spoke with members of Ubisoft Massive, a couple of major elements were yet to be worked out. As you could possibly recall, the sport occurs after a virulent disease, and players must enter hot zones.
When I asked about whether players could fall ill, i used to be told, “we do not know.” Perhaps it was just the phrasing of the solution (instead of “we’re working that out” or “we’re still being silly with how that will work”), but I wasn’t given lots of confidence that the title was going to be ready within the next year to eighteen months.
Additionally, as free-to-play stakes an even bigger claim on consoles, i assumed it prudent to invite concerning the economics. The team at Massive isn’t sure if they’ll be using a conventional MMO subscription model, something like Defiance’s retail release with cosmetic add-ons, or straight free-to-play. In view that each need to be handled different in regards to mechanics, i discovered it surprising that it wasn’t even into consideration yet.

Nintendo Launches Earthbound On Wii U Virtual Console Today
Posted on August 1, 2013 at 8:32 am
Nintendo usually gives us an advance warning before it streams one among its Nintendo Direct videos, but today’s Nintendo Direct came with none prior warning. It didn’t really count though because the company only provided updates on previously announced games.
Nintendo’s Bill Trinen started out today’s Nintendo Direct talking about Animal Crossing: New Leaf. He announced that Nintendo Zone locations at Best Buy and other retailers will start storing StreetPasses for games like Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Super Mario 3D World and other games. By visiting a Nintendo Zone, you’ll manage to pick up the StreetPass of the former player to have visited the positioning.
If you have to more StreetPass games, Trinen also announced that it might be releasing an update to the StreetPass Mii Plaza that included four new games – Mii Force, Flower Town, Warrior’s Way and Monster Manor. All four games provide new ways for players to have interaction with the folk they meet via StreetPass. Each game is obtainable for $4.99 each, or $14.99 for all four.
Next, Trinen announced that Mario & Luigi Dream Team will launch on August 11. He also shared a brand new trailer that further confirms my suspicions that it’s going to be the most effective RPGs at the 3DS this year. He also shared iteration dates for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Mario Party for Nintendo 3DS. Both titles would be launching in November.
Switching to Wii U games, Trinen shared new information about Pikmin 3. He revealed a brand new Bingo Battle stage while revealing that there’ll be 12 battle stages in all with each stage featuring three variations. Players can be ready to compare times and scores with other players around the globe.
As for fantastic 101, Trinen said that gamers might be ready to play the sport this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. Other information regarding the title can be revealed in a future Nintendo Direct with a purpose to be entirely devoted to the title.
On a last note, Trinen announced that SNES classic Earthbound is now available at the Wii U virtual console for $9.99. They’ve got also uploaded the Nintendo Power strategy guide that the sport originally shipped with to their Site. Players can access the guide from either the net or the Wii U browser because it was optimized for the gamepad.
If you favor your Nintendo Direct in full motion video, you are able to watch the total 22 minute presentation below:

Big Robot Announces Alpha Release Date Of Sir, You’re Being Hunted
Posted on July 31, 2013 at 12:35 pm
Sir, You’re Being Hunted has come some distance because it was featured in our Kickstarter Compendium. As shown inside the latest video from Big Robot, several additions to the gameplay were added, including the sentry balloons.
Also revealed within the video is the alpha release date of August 19. This may increasingly be available to the roughly 900 backers who donated £30 (roughly $45) or more to the project. Watch the video below for further details on what to anticipate with the 1st edition of Sir, You might be Being Hunted.
What do you believe you studied of the progress of Sir, You’re Being Hunted? Speak your mind within the comments.
Our Take
Seeing the progress on Sir, You’re Being Hunted has been exciting for early backers of the title. For $20, the sport can still be pre-ordered, DRM free for multiple platforms. The theorem seems clever, however the real determinant of the price of the title may be the scope. With several different biomes to explore and randomly generated encounters to outlive through, it kind of feels immense. But whether the title is definitely worth the $20 price ticket is maybe better determined after the beta version is released.

Listed here are Your complete Trailers From Today’s Surprise Nintendo Direct
Posted on July 31, 2013 at 10:45 am
Did you already know that there has been a Nintendo Direct this morning? You almost certainly didn’t as Nintendo stealthily released it with none prior warning. The secretive nature of its release doesn’t mean it was a foul Nintendo Direct though. On the contrary, there have been numerous excellent trailers released alongside of it that give us a smarter have a look at some upcoming games.
First up is Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. Nintendo calls it the “comedy trailer,” and that i believe that designation is apt. The franchise has always been known for its humor, and this latest trailer doesn’t disappoint.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team would be available on August 11 exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS.
Up next is the most recent trailer for The superb 101. This prologue trailer explains somewhat the backstory for the newest game from the geniuses over at Platinum Games. Nintendo promises a future Nintendo Direct should be devoted entirely to the sport so that you won’t must wait long for additional information.
The Wonderful 101 would be available on September 15 exclusively for Wii U.
On a last note, Nintendo released a trailer for the virtual console release of EarthBound. It’s a fine looking special event as here’s the primary time in decades that Nintendo of America has even acknowledged the game’s existence, they usually went all out with its debut on virtual console. Every virtual console release isn’t going to get a trailer this cool, but i will dream, right?
EarthBound is out there at the Wii U virtual console today.

Stream To Twitch With Raptr Desktop App
Posted on July 30, 2013 at 3:03 pm
Raptr and Twitch.tv have today announced a brand new partnership. Starting today, people with a free Raptr account and Twitch channel could be ready to use Raptr’s desktop app for game streaming.
This will make it easier and cheaper to stream content via PC. Other mechanisms for streaming to Twitch typically require a purchase order or subscription. Raptr’s desktop app is free, as are accounts at the website.
In addition to this new function, Raptr tracks game time, achievements and trophies, offers instant messenger-style chat, and Facebook and Twitter sharing. The Raptr desktop app can also be downloaded here. For an educational on how this works, see the video below.
[Source: Raptr]
Our Take
PC owners typically should invest in XSplit or other streaming programs that allows you to share their gaming with the realm. This new partnership will absolute confidence increase the quantity of content pushed to Twitch by taking down among the remaining financial and implementation barriers.
I haven’t tried streaming to Twitch via Raptr and cannot speak to how robust the configuration options are. Regardless, for those trying to dip a toe within the live streaming waters, a free option is optimal.
For me, it is a painful reminder that Raptr abandoned its Mac app.

Watch Dogs Collector’s Edition Announced, Priced
Posted on July 30, 2013 at 10:53 am
Ubisoft today announced a “Limited Edtion” bundle for its upcoming title Watch Dogs. The pack can be available for $130 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 consoles. Because the game will launch alongside the recent Sony and Microsoft consoles (which don’t yet have launch dates), the discharge date for Watch Dogs on those consoles continues to be a nebulous “Holiday 2013.” For current consoles and PC, the sport will hit stores on November 19.
The Limited Edition of Watch Dogs comes with several goodies, but not quite as many as Europeans are becoming inside the “Dedsec Edition” announced back in April. The Limited Edition features a steelbook case, soundtrack, art book, and a 9″ figurine of Watch Dogs protagonist Aiden Pearce, like the Dedsec Edition. Rather than the map, badges, augmented reality cards, and bonus single player missions of the Dedsec Edition, however, customers in North America might be getting a duplicate “vigilante mask” just like the one worn by Pearce within the game.
Watch Dogs is predicted to be one of the crucial better next-generation launch titles. The sport occurs in a near-future Chicago which players will explore Grand Theft Auto-style, with the twist that lots of the city’s electronic devices are accessible and hackable. The sport also features Dark Souls-style invasion multiplayer mechanic that was recently previewed:
