Sony to Auction Off Game Props For Trophies

Posted on July 28, 2013 at 3:39 pm

After sticking it to Microsoft at E3, Sony rode the hype of gamers right into a new ad campaign. A live-action commercial titled “Greatness Awaits” somehow managed to capture the spirit of gamers, while whilst reminding the contest that games are specifically not TV because they’re interactive.

The ad obviously had a giant budget. Hundreds of costumed extras are seen through the minute-and-a-half running time, a giraffe may be spotted within the background, and diverse lighting tricks burst off during what seems to be a moving one-take journey through a collection suffering from references to numerous games. This week, Sony announced that it’ll be auctioning off a number of the detailed props from the industrial.

A new site called “Bid For Greatness” have been created, where fans can bid at the props. The auction doesn’t take money, however, but PlayStation Gold Trophies earned through games. Starting July 16 and lasting until July 30, a brand new item would be up for auction on the site. Gamers can log into the web site using their PlayStation Network ID.

The items up for auction include concept art and weapons including a Dragonborn Stalhrim Mace from Skyrim or a Witch Doctor Mojo from Diablo III. The actual standout, though, are the costumes – a Clicker from The Last people, Delsin Rowe’s clothes from InFamous: Second Son, Captain Keneway’s Outfit from Assassin’s Creed IV, and more – which might be perfect for a Halloween party.

No Wii U, PlayStation 4, Or Xbox One Plans For Ultra Street Fighter IV

Posted on July 28, 2013 at 1:33 pm

In response to fan inquiries on Twitter, Street Fighter series executive producer Yoshinori Ono apologized and said that there are not any plans to bring the sport to Wii U, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One.

Ultra Street Fighter IV was announced in this weekend’s EVO Tournament. It’ll be available early next year, and can add new characters and stages as DLC, otherwise you should buy the sport at retail with all of Street Fighter IV’s previous DLC included at the disc. Head here to look the announcement trailer.

[Via: Kotaku]

Our Take
It’s disappointing, but not surprising to profit that Ultra Street Fighter IV won’t be coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. As we journey into the following-generation, it would be time to begin occupied with Street Fighter V. However, not appearing at the Wii U sounds like it may be somewhat a missed opportunity. It’d be a pleasant treat for Wii U owners who’re awaiting Smash Bros. to have a top quality fighting game at the console. Also, as fighting games catch up with and in the direction of the area of spectator sports, it kind of feels like there can be some interesting innovations to experiment with having yet another screen. Maybe the player could play at the GamePad, while television viewers can have full 360 degree camera control to observe the match, or something along those lines. It makes you wonder whether Capcom felt burned by releasing a 3DS version of Street Fighter IV at launch.

Forza Motorsport 5 Requires One-Time Online Connection

Posted on July 27, 2013 at 2:02 pm

Microsoft has done away with the Xbox One’s online requirement, and it appears like titles akin to Forza Motorsport 5 are still having to regulate.

In an interview with IGN, Dan Greenawalt, studio head for Forza 5 developer Turn10 Studios says that because of time constraints players could be required to download an afternoon-one patch for the sport that contains tracks, cars, and Drivatars – the game’s data-driven cars that duplicate the driving of real-life Forza 5 players.

“So while you first boot up the sport,” Greenawalt said, “we will ask you to log in. And whilst you log in you’ll get the Drivatars and you’re also going to get lots of of content: tracks and cars. Our production schedule is such that we’re putting them in as late as possible and that implies making them free as downloadable content on day one. [But] this is required content to play the sport.”

Going forward, it feels like a web based connection may be integral to the experience since you will need it to get new and updated Drivatars, which make up your field of AI cars notwithstanding you’re playing an offline, single-player game. “You do ought to connect the sport with a view to get the most recent Drivatars, because we want as many of us training them as possible. And so in preference to having only a launch-day set that was created by us, each day that folks race goes to make the Drivatar set that rather more accurate, that rather more diverse, that rather more interesting.”

Greenawalt didn’t go into specifics of what playing Forza 5 offline except the day-one download would appear like, but he did say the team is “attempting to get as much of [the Drivatars] into the unconnected, offline mode to boot.”

We’ve reached out to Microsoft and Turn10 Studios for more details at the matter, and may update this story if we hear anything.

Our Take
The Drivatar feature – if done well – might be great for online players, but it surely sounds like Forza 5 is having to suddenly comply with Microsoft’s reversal of its online-requirement policy for Xbox One. Drivatars sound so integral to the now-offline single-player mode that we wonder what playing single-player will seem like if you are not connected. In the event that your Drivatars aren’t allowed to adapt since you should not have the newest download, can we be stuck with moronic, swerving drivers? Will Turn10 offer a hard and fast of developer-created AI it is more stable? This also brings up the age-old issue of what you as a client actual own once you buy a disc. Day-one patches are common, but to have it tied to something so fundamental to the sport as Forza 5’s Drivatars, cars, and tracks, may be something different altogether.

Johnny Gat Is Back In Saints Row IV

Posted on July 27, 2013 at 11:52 am

If you’ve been a while fan of Saints Row, you’re almost definitely a huge fan of Johnny Gat. His untimely death before everything of Saints Row: The Third was unfortunate, but he’ll back within the Saint’s latest outing.

In a brand new trailer released today, Volition announced that Johnny Gat might be back in Saints Row IV. It’s not clear if his return is as a result of him not actually dying within the last game, or if this new Gat is simply a clone. The below trailer makes it appear like the latter is the case.

So, how is Gat alive? Volition says we’ll discover when the sport is released in August:

In other Saints Row IV news, the sport was recently refused classification in Australia over an “Alien Anal Probe” weapon. The developers will likely must remove the weapon for the sport to be released in down under. As for other countries that would like to dictate what entertainment adults can consume, Germany will surprisingly allow a very uncensored version of Saints Row IV to launch within its borders.

Saints Row IV will launch on August 20 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

New XCOM Declassified Trailer Teases Story, Characters

Posted on July 26, 2013 at 6:32 am

The release of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is not up to one month away, and 2K Games is ramping up its marketing for the title.

Over the past few months, trailers for The Bureau have focused heavily at the title’s gameplay. Though the sport is a 3rd-person shooter, it shares some influences from its predecessor, turn-based strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Players can be ready to shoot aliens with quite a number exotic weaponry, however the game also offers some strategy by using a “Battle Focus” menu that enables players to reserve their AI squadmates to take new positions, throw ordinance, taunt enemies, mounted turrets, or focus fire a target.

Today’s new trailer isn’t about gameplay, though. The hot video highlights a little the tale behind The Bureau, introduces just a few field agents who’re tasked with keeping an alien invasion secret, and shows off just how powerful the aliens within the game could be:
